Residents from Grande Dunes share their favorite things to do in Myrtle Beach during the holidays.

We all know that sun-soaked Myrtle Beach is a golf and beach lover’s paradise. But did you know the city has much to offer throughout the year and that’s especially true during the holiday season? December through New Year’s is an especially festive time around here and there is no shortage of family fun.

Christmas light shows. Legendary holiday extravaganzas at iconic theaters. Nights of a Thousand Candles at Brookgreen Gardens. A new Winter Wonderland at the Beach. These are just a few of the many events and activities that are available.

In fact, there’s so much to do it’s hard to know what to do first and how to fill up your December dance card. To help you get the most out of the holiday season and guide you to where the locals like to go, we recently surveyed Grande Dunes residents on their favorite things to do in Myrtle Beach over the holidays. Here’s what they had to say: 

“We will definitely be heading to Ripley’s Aquarium for their Festival of Trees. The trees are decorated to represent every state in the U.S. The South Carolina tree is a must see, especially if you’re a Coastal or Clemson fan ;)”

“We plan to shop ‘til we drop. Literally. Some of our favorite places to go are Broadway at the Beach and Barefoot Landing over in North Myrtle Beach. Definitely worth the drive.”

“Our family has tickets to The Christmas Show of the South at the Carolina Opry Theater. We go every year and it’s always a big hit. They put on a fabulous show. Just seeing the smiles on our kids’ faces is worth the price of admission alone.”

“We plan to ice skate in Myrtle Beach! Yes, you read that right. Apparently, the Burroughs & Chapin Pavilion Place in downtown Myrtle Beach is hosting a Winter Wonderland at the Beach with ice skating. Now, if only we could ice skate on the Atlantic Ocean.” 

“10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 ,1…Happy Noon Year! Each year, LuLu’s at Barefoot Landing in North Myrtle Beach hosts a kid-friendly Noon Year’s Eve. It’s a great way to ring in the new year with the young’uns and we’re home in bed at a reasonable hour.
