Keeping it Spooky: 7 At-Home Halloween Ideas
Just because we’re in the middle of a pandemic doesn’t mean we have to completely give up everyone’s favorite spooky holiday! Halloween is a time of fun and excitement, something we can all use a little more of – especially kids. At Arden, homes have open concepts and spacious yards that make it easy to celebrate at home, not to mention the friendly neighbors and fun-filled lifestyle events. Here are some fang-tastic ways you can have fun with your favorite ghouls and goblins this year, all while staying safe.
- Trick-or-Treat at Home
Especially for young kids, Halloween is all about trick-or-treating! While you may decide not to go door-to-door this year, you can still let your littles experience this tradition at home. Have adults and older kids stationed in different rooms of the house for your youngest family members to go around and trick-or-treat – bonus points for decorating bedroom doors or dressing up in costume! - Scavenger Hunt
For older kids, a scavenger hunt might be more their speed. Hide treats, small toys and surprises around the house or in the yard for your gremlins to find. Try doing it after dark using flashlights and glowsticks for an extra creepy activity! - Pumpkin Carving
Who doesn’t love to carve jack-o-lanterns? This is an activity that the whole family can enjoy! Play some haunted music and carve or paint pumpkins together, and afterwards you can roast the pumpkin seeds for a savory snack. - Movie Marathon

Plan a movie marathon with popcorn and plenty of candy to snack on. You could even set up a projector outside and invite some neighbors for a socially distanced event! - Costume Contest
There’s nothing like a little competition to get everyone motivated! Organize a costume contest with your extended family and see who can come up with the best costume. You can model your creations virtually using Zoom, and vote on who’s costume is the most frightful! Or, get together with neighbors at one of Arden’s parks to show off from a safe social distance. - Creepy Crafts
Using simple supplies like paper, glue and your imagination, you can come up with an unlimited number of Halloween crafts. Try your hand at some origami pumpkins, creepy garlands or even paper masks. Then you can use your creations to decorate the house! - Tasty Treats
Pumpkin seeds, caramel apples and candy corn, oh my! Making themed treats or favorite family snacks is a sure-fire way to get everyone excited about the season. You can even let the kids help in the kitchen, and make use of some of the fresh produce grown on Arden’s five-acre working farm.
