Discover Vacation Destinations Near Homestead

Homestead is located in Schertz, Texas, nestled outside the well-known city of San Antonio. It’s a spot with a lot of perks: easy access to the highway and multiple military bases for shorter commutes, yet plenty of restaurants and entertainment to enjoy nearby. But it’s also the perfect home base for exploring the vacation-worthy Texas Hill Country!

Whether you’re a weekend warrior or want an easy day trip, there are tons of areas to explore within an easy driving distance of Homestead.

New Braunfels and Gruene
New Braunfels is just down IH 35, so it’s the perfect place for an easy day trip when you live at Homestead. You can float the Comal River on a sunny summer day to stay cool – just make sure to bring some sunscreen and drinks! Or if you want more of a thrill, head over to Schlitterbahn to spin down rides or dive into the wave pool. You can wrap up the evening with a classic drive-in movie at the Stars and Stripes Drive-In Theater.

The Gruene Historic District is a favorite spot for many locals. You can peruse the shops while enjoying the unique architecture and ambiance, then grab a bite at any of the mouth-watering restaurants. There is almost always some kind of festival, event or craft fair happening, so make sure to check their event calendar to see what’s going on during your visit.

Canyon Lake
For a classic lake day experience, look no further than Canyon Lake. Just visit one of the many parks around the perimeter to jump in the cool water and swim to your heart’s content. Overlook Park has a great view as well as water access, while Comal Park has a playground, picnic tables and a beach-like area. If you have a boat (or want to rent one), then the Canyon Lake Marina is where you should go.

Wimberley
Wimberley is the epitome of a charming Hill Country town. It’s well-known for its unique swimming spots – Jacob’s Well and Blue Hole – but there’s a lot more going for this small town than swimming. Stroll through the streets to check out vintage shops, grab a snack or head to a restaurant with outdoor seating to relax and people watch. The EmilyAnn Theatre & Gardens has regular outdoor performances, along with a butterfly garden and nature paths. It’s also the location for the much-loved Trail of Lights during the holidays.
