5 Easy Moving Tips and Tricks

Buying a brand new home that is the ideal fit for your life and finally getting all settled is like a dream come true. And at Arden, homes include some innovative features that make everyday life easier, like plenty of storage, spacious kitchens and flex spaces that allow your home to grow and change with you. But as exciting as a new home is, the moving itself can be stressful and put a damper on the whole experience. However, with these easy tips and tricks, you can make your move a lot easier and less hectic, and start enjoying your new home that much sooner.

  1. Prepare Early

As soon as you know your moving date, go ahead and book movers or reserve a truck – especially if you’re moving on a weekend. It’s also a good idea to pre-schedule service changes, like utilities, internet and mail forwarding, so you won’t have to worry about handling those on move-in day, or worse, moving into a home with no running water or air conditioning.

  2. Pack Smart

Instead of packing up all the books, trinkets and linens in like-item boxes, pack up each room separately. It’ll be much easier to unpack by room, rather than a bunch of miscellaneous boxes! Also make sure to label boxes on the sides, rather than the top, so you can still see it when stacked.

  3. Keep Essentials Handy

Pack a separate box with the things you’ll need right away, and keep it in your car so it doesn’t get lost in the moving truck. Include things like scissors, cleaning supplies, toilet paper, and disposable plates, cups and utensils that will make that first night stress free.

  4. Bring an Overnight Bag

Packing a suitcase or duffle bag with a change of clothes and bathroom essentials will make the following day so much easier. Being able to shower, change and brush your teeth will make a world of difference after moving day. And if you have kids, make sure to include their special blanket or stuffed animal to avoid potential meltdowns and make the transition to your new home easier.

  5. Make the Bed

As soon as all of your boxes and furniture are in the house, make the bed before you start unpacking anything else. You’re sure to be exhausted by the end of the day, and falling into your bed that evening will feel like heaven. You’ll be glad you did it ahead of time, instead of leaving it until you feel like you couldn’t move another muscle!
